Yes, there are two formats of SPL files - SPL8 and SPLN. My tool unfortunately only works with SPL8 files at the moment. SPL8 files use a compression technique, one of the features of which is a colour palette that stores the colours used by the file. The colour operations edit the colour palette, thereby reshading the image. SPLN files are uncompressed and have no colour palette, and so the tool doesn't currently work on them.

Most armours, weapons and monsters are of SPL8 filetype, so you shouldn't experience a problem with them, but the occasional one will be SPLN, for which the same method of conversion to bitmap, editing, and conversion back to SPL would have to be used. It might be possible in the future to add SPLN support, but it would slow down the colour operations to some extent, since instead of editing 256 colours, the algorithm would have to treat each pixel of each frame as if it was a colour in the colour palette, increasing the CPU workload significantly.

Nice work Miser. I've enjoyed playing with and destroying my armature file with this ;).

You can use Aril's index found here: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=3492

to quickly find the relevant files you need for specific items

This tool lets you see what file is which fairly easily if you set up the file-type association. Right-click a Soma SPL file and select 'Open with...' and then select Browse to choose SomaVision.exe wherever you placed it. Then at the bottom of the 'Open with...' screen, check the checkbox so that it will always open SPL files with SomaVision. Then you can double-click on any SPL to see what's in it, and quickly move through multiple files in the same directory by using the '<<' and '>>' arrows on the SomaVision interface.

If you don't know where a file is at all, you will perhaps be better off using Aril's index as Arcanine mentioned above, and then opening the file in SomaVision to do your edits.
