New Mob Project Initiated

isylver teased me on the idea of making a new mob for the game... as if thats easy eh?

Well, its time to find out. My modelling skills are intermediate at best, im not so hot
when it comes to modelling creatures etc so I searched the net checking for free
materials and sure enough I found some pretty nice stuff.

Im going to try making this into a mob. The files didnt come with any
copyright notice and notice of ownership or anything so as far as im concerned,
its in the public domain.

I figure I'll just need to animate it flapping its wings in 8 different
directions and maybe increasing and decreasing altitude a little
here and there.

So stay tuned this could be fun :)

Check out the movement sprites, I know they might not be perfect.. in terms of
how the mob is angled, but im just brushing up on how to animate at the mo.

The attachment includes 88 sprites of the insect moving in 8 directions.

Upon lookin at the sprites again, I'll need to keep the body movement the same, but
speed up the wings, since they are moving too slow. getting there!

Updated sprites - see attached

1: Fixed wing animation
2: Removed Antialiasing
3: Mob now slightly changes altitude, giving a better hovering effect.

To do..

1: Death animations
2: Attack animations

Death sequence - See attached

Im gonna keep the complexity of the death sequence minimum
and it wont include the wings because...frankly theres no point
I would rather the wings be just about viewable when they are
flapping.

The bug basically just curls up upon death, much like a wasp would
in real life.

Just looked em over and looks great :D. You finding it easier to do mobs then shields?

Shields would be very straight forward.. if I had the original character models and the animations for them, but we dont have em and its unlikely that we ever will.. so making any item thats meant to be equipped on the character means almost hand making about 80 sprites. its stupid.

With mobs though its far easier, since your in complete control of how it animates etc.
