Postby Naruto » Fri Nov 06, 2009 11:44 pm

I'm kinda new to 3d max anyways and here are 2 swords that I made it only took around 5 minutes so there not very detailed + I couldn't be bothered to give them any textures either

Not bad at all! specially if your brand new to the Max scene.
I havent really produced any weapons for soma yet, but heres
a medieval sword I made in the past.

Keep at it, you'll only get better and better. You will find getting it
in-game to be a horror story though :(

Heres a hint... get some existing sword designs, bring them into max
as images and trace over them, it'll give you good modelling experience and
will aid you in producing all swords of weird and wonderfull fantasy
weps.

The X-Wing is lovely, texturing is my weak side, but if you applied a bump map
to the texture/s it would make it look more believable. This was the peak
of my ability in 3dsmax, I never really progressed beyond this. My intention
was always to be average at 20 things rather than be brilliant at just one
thing

The complete F-5 Freedom Fighter took me a month and even then, its wrong
but not by much :p

Well.... let me see if I can demonstrate this... examine this image

The exact same texture is used on all 3 spheres, but notice that the sphere closest to
the camera seems to have more depth? as if ive actually chipped away at the sphere
with a pick?

The middle sphere is also bump mapped, ive just set it so it isnt as strong.

That is bump mapping, it makes a plain texture, look like it has depth. It works
for metals, landscapes and just about anything you can think off. Research it, its
actually very simple to do!
