Fornway Mountains South v2.0 (Progress thread)

Postby Slayerr » Wed Jun 29, 2011 5:04 pm

Hey guys,

I've just started up this new thread as i've finally got time to go around my Fornway Mountain map for improvements. Generally my aim now is to create lots of new objects and what not that can be used to break the standard soma feel. I've made a start and got the process in my head now of how to do it, and the first result is this:

This is nothing too definitive as to what the final maps going to look like, but it's always nice to see something new gracing this game :P. I'll keep updating when I reach more progress milestones!

Haha no, i';ve made the items in 3DS max. This ain't really owt special tbh - just me testing the new object process. You'll notice the first images is a statue with the sword of heaven on top, and just some random blobs of snow I did. I'm not ripping iwt, I plan to make all my own objects in max :).

maybe on then stands you can put the sword of might thing on the side, like a logo (a colour just a little darker than the actual stand)

then put a fire on top or something =]

It's a nice little idea tbf - but i'll probs make a separate model for that. I wanna just make a tonne of objects that can go with this map, then just polish them up and pick which ones go best with it. :)

New ice fence - shadow needs sorting out abit, but it actually blends quite well with the game other than that.

Nice work. My suggestion would be to make it look more of a fence covered in snow/ice instead of a fence made out of snow/ice if you know what I mean. I'd remove the ball of snow/ice in the middle of the posts and probably shrink the balls of snow/ice at the top and bottom a bit just to give it more of a realistic fence covered in snow look.

I look forward to seeing more of your progress.

maybe even having little Icicles dangleing down off the fence to make it look abit more like the snow/ice had fallen on to it

Aye cheers for the feedback guys. I do appreciate where you're both coming from - I have been debating with myself whether to go for more realistic stuff, or try and break it up with some more obscure types. Alot of the stuff i'm doing atm i'm basically just creating the materials in 3DS max. Ideally what I wanna be doing abit later on is going over them all and making actual proper textures for them so it blends with the game better. I wanna get some new animated objects in aswell - for example the statue at the top, I wanted to make it so that the blade handle spins round on top of the pedestal.
