I'd imagine there are a few reasons firstly:
  • Players who donate may often feel they deserve a greater say in the running of the server, because of their investment, problems can then arise when they feel they aren't getting specialist treatment
  • Taking donations suggests that you need the money to keep the service operational, while not accepting donations implies the server is self reliant
  • The rumours that usually start from accepting donations can damage a server's and or game master's reputation

saying that, there is a non functional donate button on the homepage so who knows

Namely the reason is:

If a user donates to help the cause they may feel a sense of involvement in the project including querying the completion.

"i donated this i want my money back servers not up"

etc

There's also the ethical issues.

Why does the homepage say: "LAUNCH Server Is Almost Here"?

Might want to edit that banner now?

It's always said that, There is no need to change that anyone who is truly interested in the project would have read through any comments made by staff on the completion of the project.

You will be updated when we have enough to update you with frankly the work going on right now could be deemed as "boring" to most users.

Sylver asked me to stop by and check out the new development here, looking good isnt it! I'll be keeping an eye on things here, Soma will probably always have a little place in my heart, spent alot of my time with it afterall.

For anyone who is coming here new, inquisitively looking through the website wondering if Soma could be the game for you - keep an eye on this development and give it a try, you'll be surprised at the playability of Soma. It has a certain charm and fun factor that has yet to be repeated in the new MMO's.

If they should so need, i'll be here for any input they would like - not that everyone agreed with my strategies in the past, the general populous seemed to enjoy ShenSoma which was our first attempt at bringing the game to a new plateu.

Soma lives on.
