Emoticons Display User Vote

Postby iSylver » Wed Sep 17, 2008 7:28 am

Currently the ability to /hug, /smile etc. Has been implemented into the client however how the text is displayed is up to you!

Should it:

- Displayed top left in the chat channel? if so what colour/size/format.
- Displayed above head in bold/italic?
- Have your own idea? submit here.

Quick note: we are currently working on adding images and sounds to the emoticon actions.

Emoticons :/

Hopefully there's an option to turn them off as they'd look so out of place on a Soma back ground.

At the moment its just plain text, hard to see how it can look out of place.

Any screenshots available? Will probably be me overreacting, but the dodgy hybrid I'm imagining doesn't look at all good.

We have the function ingame at the moment however the text colour chosen looks very similar to the "purple shout scroll" rgb values hence why we're asking for user input .

id personally say put it above the persons head in a different colour (if possible) to avoid the chat channel being spammed.
SQL 2005 is like a women. You tell it to do something, it whines at you for 2 hours then does something completly different.

Can this be implemented as kind of a server message like in WoW, where it comes up like 'Tom hugs Jim' or will it have to say our names infront of it? Say my name was Tom and I '/hug Sylver' would it come up "Tom: Tom hugs Sylver"? Say the Emotion text popped up above your head, would your name appear above it? This might look confusing since normal chat would appear the same way. And if graphical emotions are expected to be implemented, it would make sense to put the text elsewhere.

I'm just curious of the limitations.

Consider there to be no limitations we currently have it displaying as

ISylver : tickles bric

However if put above head we could have it as

"...tickles Bric"

I think it would look best to come up in the upper left of the screen since graphical emotions would come up beside your character via aura correct? At first I was thinking that the chat screen would be spammed with emotions...but have you ever played WoW? You hardly see any emotion text come up in chat, it's all selling, buying, and begging.

Would it be out of our reach to add a button to F12 to turn on/off emotion text from showing?

They can appear anywhere and don't need to use aura.

Can be added and should be seeing as the other chat types have a on/off on f12.
